(Hony) Brig. Dr. Arvind Lal is currently the Chairman of FICCI’s Swasth Bharat (Public Health) Task Force and is the outgoing Chairman of FICCI’s Health Services Committee. Additionally, he is a former President of NATHEALTH. Brig. Lal is an alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune. Notably, he has pioneered the quality enhancement of laboratory services in India by bringing them at par with the West.
Brig. Lal assumed charge of the medical diagnostics laboratory Dr. Lal PathLabs in 1977, which was founded by his late father in 1949. Under his expertise and able guidance, Dr Lal PathLabs (LPL) has become one of the most reputed laboratories in Asia, having a record of 32 labs accredited by NABL. Brig. Lal has brought further international acclaim to the Indian healthcare industry by receiving much coveted accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP-USA).
Dr. Lal PathLabs currently operates nearly 216 labs, including Asia’s biggest lab at Rohini, New Delhi. Over 70,000 patients are tested daily across these labs, and nearly 20 million tests were administered by Dr. Lal Pathlabs in the year 2020. In the ongoing battle against Covid-19, the labs have conducted more than 1 million RT-PCR tests.
In 2015, under his leadership his company had one of the most successful IPOs’ in the history of the National Stock Exchange. Brig. Lal has garnered numerous accolades for his contribution to the healthcare and innovation sector. He was awarded with the Padma Shri in 2009 and also became the first civilian doctor to be granted an honorary Brigadier’s rank in Armed Forces Medical Services in the same year. He received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by All India Management Association (AIMA) in 2016. Brig. Lal was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Federation of Indian Chambers and Commerce (FICCI) in 2017. He was inducted in the prestigious Hall of Fame by the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune in 2019. Brig. Lal, along with his CEO were awarded the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award, 2019 in the Healthcare category. He was also awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy, PhD, Honoris Causa by Rai University.
